Illuminated Pony Emblem

Automotive

A leading OEM automotive supplier wanted to illuminate the existing Ford Mustang Pony emblem. Lumitex was able to produce a backlight solution that consisted of our PCF4 technology coupled with a flex circuit. Our CFF material provided the following benefits: no tail, the ability to add functional layers without disruption of the light, and the ability to withstand the automotive temperature requirements of -40°C to 85°C. This provided the customer with a thin, uniform, and robust lighting solution that fit within their very tight space constraints.

As part of our L-VAS offering, Lumitex designed the flex circuit and provided integration of the back light into the customer’s back plate. The main benefit to our customer was Lumitex’s ability to do the circuit design in-house.

Illuminated Steering Wheel Emblem

Automotive

Our customer is a Tier 2 supplier of plastic molded components, decals and nameplates to the automotive and transportation markets. They wanted to illuminate the existing SRT steering wheel emblem. The challenge was to create a lighting solution that could be mounted to the steering wheel and not become a danger if the air bag deployed. Lumitex was able to develop a backlight that was thin, lightweight, and could be installed into the steering wheel with the existing emblem mounting configuration.

The Lumitex backlight was created using our Clad Flat Fiber® (CFF) technology. As part of our L-VAS approach, Lumitex worked closely with the customer to design the circuitry required to meet their operational requirements. The end result was a thin, uniform, and robust lighting solution that fit within their construction requirements.

The thinness and versatility of our CFF material enabled our backlight to be applied directly behind the steering wheel emblem, and the low weight was important for the airbag deployment tests.

Decorative Door Sill

Automotive

When our customer needed to backlight thier decorative doorsill applique, they teamed up Lumitex for a solution.  Our patented Uni-Glo® technology was selected due it’s ultra thin, panel constuction and the ability to withstand a variety of enviromental conditions without deterioration. 

Due to specific automotive requirements, the Uni-Glo® technology was also selected due to it’s capability to remote the LED light source away from the doorsill pocket well.  The Uni-Glo® technology is also heat and EMI-free and provides superior brightness, uniformity, and longer life compared to other types of lighting technologies.
