Our Proprietary Fiber Optic Technology

  • UniGlo®
  • Lumitex’s patented UniGlo® technology utilizes a proprietary process using plastic optical fiber panels to create light where you need it. UniGlo® processed backlighting panels are constructed of .010" diameter cladded plastic optical fibers. We can integrate a reflective backing to create a light guide panel as thin as .013".

    Multiple layers can be used to enhance brightness while maintaining uniformity. The fiber optics allow a single light source to be placed remotely, with the option to use multiple sources for variable colors and intensities. Single layer Uniglo panels have excellent tactile feel for a membrane switch application. In addition, this technology is ideal for LCDs, panels, control consoles, PRNDLs, keyless entry, machine vision, man-machine interface, elastomeric keypads, courtesy lights, signs and point of purchase overlays.

    • Bendiglo™ (a derivative of Uniglo) allows bends in the panel up to a full circular profile
  • Our proprietary computer-controlled process produces precisely-engineered micro bends in the optical fiber to uniformly extract the light throughout the panel length.

    The cladded fiber allows us to integrate back reflectors, brightness enhancing films, and adhesives to improve the assembly into your product.

Woven and Uniglo

Uniform Lighting
Lumitex fiber optic backlighting spreads the light providing a uniform appearance.

Efficient Design
Minimal engineering charge with low-cost tooling. We can design and build a prototype for your application in less than 2 weeks.

Thin, Low Profile
Typical construction is .013 inches thick (0.33mm) for our uniglo technology, including the back reflector. Each additional layer adds only .010” (0.25 mm)to the panel thickness.

Long Life
Our durable fiber optic panel have been in use for over 20 years. LED light sources offer 10,000 to 100,000 hours of continuous operation.

Selective patterns
The proprietary light extraction process can be modified to illuminate specific shapes and areas, enhancing the brightness and contrast in those regions.

Range of Colors
Standard LED colors include green, white, blue, red, amber and yellow-green. RGB LED’s can be used to effectively provide any desired color. Separate layers can be lit with different colors to allow the backlight color to be changed depending on the status or application.

Standard Sources
A variety of 3mm and 5mm sources are available with standard coupling in Green, White, Blue, and Red. Bicolor LED’s are also offered.

Standard Materials
The standard offering of materials to help meet application requirements includes Melinex reflective films, diffusers, laminates, adhesives, braided sleeves, and tubing.

Multiple layers of Woven or Uniglo Fiber Optic Panels can be used to enhance brightness while maintaining uniformity.

Design Complexity

Low: Light Guide only Customer supplies their own sources and electronics.
Moderate: Light Guide and Source Customer only needs to supply power.
High: Light Guide, Source, Electronics
